Palais Campofranco – A House Full of History, Connected to Castel Sallegg

In the heart of Bolzano’s historic center, between Waltherplatz and Mustergasse, lies Palais Campofranco – a building that has preserved stories for centuries while continually being rewritten. Its roots trace back to the 18th century, when it was remodeled in Baroque style and became one of the city's most important aristocratic residences.

Later, it became the home of Viceroy Archduke Rainer of Austria – a historical figure inextricably linked with Castel Sallegg. To this day, the Palais carries his spirit: cultivated, generous, cosmopolitan. In the courtyard stands a mighty ginkgo tree – a gift from that era and a visible symbol of both permanence and transformation.

Today, the Palais is owned by the Kuenburg family – the same proprietors who run Castel Sallegg. This creates a connection that goes far beyond architecture: two places, one legacy, one story. Bolzano and Kaltern, city and vineyard, culture and agriculture come together here.
